Working closely with the Smith & Hawken visual team and their consultants,
we created a new kind of shopping experience for the Smith & Hawken customer.
Our primary design objective was to create a calming and inspiring environment
that evokes the garden. It is a place where plants will thrive. Merchandise
groupings will tell a story and create a feeling of smaller shops within a
shop to make destinations within their diverse merchandise line.
We crafted a shopping environment that is dappled with daylight,
animated by the sound of trickling water, and enriched by a palette of
natural materials that create a gracious backdrop for lifestyle vignettes.
The first two stores opened in May of 2006 to effectively establish
Smith & Hawken as the premier authority on outdoor living inspired by the garden.
