Elephant Pharm at Walnut Creek, CA is a unique pharmacy retail space which takes a holistic view of health, and mental and physical well-being through merchandise, education, and community building. The store was chosen by the U.S.G.B.C. (United States Green Building Council) for inclusion in the LEED for Retail Pilot Program. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the national benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. Input from the LEED for Retail Pilot Program will help develop guiding principles for all future LEED registered retail projects.

The 12,000 sq. ft. store is suffused with daylight and an open sales area that uses low to no VOC finishes. The design concept applies a considerable amount of building reuse, and the majority of the new store is composed of materials that have recycled content of at least 20%, including store signage. Elephant Pharm also sponsors community events and in-house classroom programs that promote neighborhood development through environmental awareness and healthy living.
