The Symphony Store has been in place since 1981 at Davies Hall. It is open prior to performances, during intermission, and following a concert. Our objective is to design a space within Davies Hall that would feel more permanent, but could be “stowed away” when not in use.

We had to define the store as a place within the larger space of the hall without intruding on the existing building. A panelled canopy delineates the store from the rest of the hall, providing a reflective surface to bounce light down to the merchandise, acoustical reverberation, and a sense of being inside. While custom fixtures provide display during operational hours, they also provide storage and can be wheeled aside when not in use.
